"Broken Sword" (Kyrgyz: "Сынган кылыч") is a historical novel by Tologon Kasymbek that masterfully analyzes the roles played by certain local rulers and the popular uprisings during the Russian Empire's conquest of Turkestan, the present-day Central Asia.

The novel artistically depicts the social conditions of the Kyrgyz people during the Kokand Khanate, a distinct era in Kyrgyz national history. It covers events from 1801, when Alim Khan ascended the throne, to 1876, when Iskhak-Bolot Khan was executed. Over these 75 years, the people's struggles, aspirations, and strategies were focused on a single goal: to establish an independent state, uphold national dignity, and achieve national freedom.
